    I joined CrossFit in May of 2012, and after the first class I was hooked. I heard about CrossFit from a good friend of mine and it sounded like exactly what I needed to reach my fitness goals. I have been a passionate runner for years but needed something to spice up my fitness. After joining CrossFit, I was sold on the method of mixing cardio, weight lifting, and flexibility into one workout that is short and intense.

    When I completed my first CrossFit workout I knew I was in the right place and was excited about taking classes. The coaches are encouraging, motivating, and unselfish. They showed me how to scale workouts to my abilities, but still enabled me to challenge myself. Each time I enter the CrossFit gym it is like a personal training session. I am more confident in my physical abilities than ever. In the past 4 years, I have gotten stronger and increased my endurance. Every class is challenging, requires hard work, but the results are remarkable.”

    Before starting CrossFit, I had struggled with my weight for many years. I took up running and got decent at it while in college but after graduating and working full time, my weight began to pile back on. I had a gym membership but would go once or twice a month. When I walked in to CrossFit Shelby for the first time I weighed 275 pounds. Like any new person, I was intimidated by the work load and the ability of some of the members to destroy workouts that were destroying me. I didn’t let it stop me though, and over the course of 6 months I lost close to 50 pounds. Three years later, I’m now a CrossFit coach able to do things physically I never would have dreamed!
